Neil Mitchell says Channel 9 has made a mistake by announcing disgraced cricketer David Warner as a commentator for an upcoming One Day International match.

However, the network has defended the decision.

Warner was one of three Australian cricketers banned as part of the ball-tampering scandal.

“I think it’s wrong,” Neil Mitchell said.

Channel 9’s director of sport, Tom Malone, said Warner deserved a chance to make amends with the public.

“At what point do you start allowing them to rehabilitate themselves in public?” Malone said on 3AW.

“I think they all deserve a second chance, there’s no doubt about that.

“We’ve all made mistakes in life.

“He’s been part of Channel 9 for five years and we’re a pretty loyal company.”
