Hillary Clinton says women feel pressured to vote the same way as their husbands
Former presidential candidate Hillary Clinton says one of the reasons she lost the election against Donald Trump is because women feel pressured to vote the same way as their husbands.
“She is currently undertaking a book tour and will be in Australia soon,” Tom said.
“She’s said that in America, many women, particularly white women, feel pressured to vote the same way as their husbands and this is one of the reasons Donald Trump won the election.”
Tom said when his mother told his father she voted for Gough Whitlam, it didn’t go down well.
“In the mid 1980s my mother admitted that she voted for Gough Whitlam in the 1972 election and at the time my father was federal president of the Liberal party.
“He almost divorced her on the spot!”

Monash University Politics lecturer Nic Economou said stories like this are quite common.
“You do hear anecdotal stories like that all the time,” Mr Economou said.
“Because there’s usually a correlation between voting behaviour, attitudes towards politics and your socio-economic background, there tends to be similarities in voting behaviour of like-minded people.
“I think she (Clinton) hasn’t quite grasped why she’s lost and is still trying to put the blame on other people.”
