Jimmy Bartel questions lack of action from AFL Players’ Association after Majak Daw incident

Former Geelong legend Jimmy Bartel has questioned the AFL Players’ Association lack of action following Majak Daw’s fall on Sunday night.

The 27-year-old North Melbourne player was rescued from the Yarra river over the weekend and sustained serious pelvic and hip injuries in the incident.

Bartel told Sportsday the AFLPA should have held a press conference to address issues around mental health in the AFL.

“You’re there to represent the players – an email is not going to cut it,” he said.

“Your job is to represent your playing group, there’s nothing else in the brief.

“I’m not doubting that they’re (showing support for their players) but sometimes you need to get in front of a microphone and say it.

“You can’t just roll up only for CBA negotiations when it comes to pay disputes.
