Malcolm Turnbull’s three options now that the plebiscite is dead

Tom Elliott

Tom Elliott has the solution for Malcolm Turnbull after the marriage equality plebiscite was voted down.

Labor officially blocked the Coalition’s same-sex marriage plebiscite on Tuesday.

So what does the Prime Minister do now?

Tom said he has three options:

  • Do nothing.
  • Go against the right-wing of his party and have a parliamentary vote.
  • Commission his own opinion poll of 100,000 Australians from a private organisation.

‘He says we need to know, once and for all, what the Australian people truly think about gay marriage,’ Tom said.

‘Let’s poll 100,000 people in Australia, Malcolm Turnbull pays for it privately, we get a result. Then we have our plebiscite.’

He said Mr Turnbull could easily cover the cost.

‘He is probably worth between $100-150 million because of successful decisions he made in business before going into politics,’ he said.

Tom said 100,000 people is a sufficient sample size to gauge the nation’s opinion, provided it covers regional and rural areas as well as cities, and covers all states.
