A man has been shot at Carnegie.

Police are investigating the circumstances surrounding the shooting on Neerim Road, near Murrumbeena Station.

Officers were called to the incident at about 2.15pm on Wednesday afternoon.

They were unable to locate the victim, but a man presented at Moorabbin Hospital hospital a short time later with gunshot wounds.

Paramedics treated the man for upper body injuries.

He has been transferred to another hospital in a serious but stable condition.

Gunta reported the shooting to Tom Elliott, and said there had also been a firebombing.

He said police had stopped him from leaving a building in the area.

“Residents in one unit (block) have been locked in,” he said.

“Police are everywhere and they’re restricting access for residents and vehicles.”

Seven News reporter Melina Sarris said witnesses told her a fight broke out and a Molotov cocktail was thrown.

“They saw a number of people arguing and yelling in the street,” she said.

“They’ve then seen someone throw a plastic bottle filled with liquid and they believe that was a petrol bomb.

“Then they told me they saw two people jump into a car.”

Anyone who witnessed the incident or anyone with further information is urged to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 or submit a confidential crime report at
