Second time lucky? Police unveil new gun holsters (again)

Second time lucky?

Police are confident they’ve got it right this time, as they prepare to begin the rollout of 18,000 new gun holsters.

As exclusively revealed on 3AW, the $1.6 million rollout was brought to an embarrassing halt last year after it was revealed the new holsters too easily disengaged.

The new holsters were recalled and officers have been using the 2014 since.

But today Assistant Commissioner Kevin Casey told Neil Mitchell the same holsters have been refitted.

The update cost about $400,000, cheaper than originally predicted because the 2017 holsters could be retro-fitted to meet requirements, rather than completely junked.

“I’ve got a high level of comfort that this is the best available holster,” Mr Casey said.
